Accessible Beach Accesses
Beach matting makes it possible for individuals with mobility issues to get to the beach
The Adaptive Surf project has been working with local governments to donate and install beach matting so that people who happen to use wheels for mobility can get on the beach.

South Carolina
North Myrtle Beach
- 42nd Ave N has 130 feet of blue beach matting, but there is no nearby handicap parking and there is a curb and some sand limiting access.
- Cherry Grove Pier has 50 feet of beach matting to the left of the pier facing the ocean.
- 6th Ave S has 33 feet of beach matting at the other end of an ADA accessible wooden ramp.
- 33rd Ave S has 40 feet of beach matting.
- 47th Ave S has 20 feet of beach matting
Atlantic Beach
- The Town of Atlantic Beach has 100 foot beach mat that gives access to the ocean from their main beach access.
Briarcliff Acres
- The neighborhood of Briarcliff Acres has a 60 foot beach mat that extends past the dune at their beach access.
Myrtle Beach
- Myrtle Beach has no beach matting at any public beach accesses. (They do have wooden ADA ramps in some locations.)
- The Myrtle Beach Travel Park (10108 Kings Rd) has an about 100 foot beach mat that extends to the end of the dunes.
Surfside Beach
- Surfside has beach matting at the following locations:(more information coming)
- 16th North
- 3rd North
- Surfside Pier
- 3rd South
- 13th South
Pawleys Island
- There is beach matting at the Pawleys Island Point with good handicap parking and a beach wheelchair that's free to use. We will update this page with more accesses soon...
